Cancer Treatment Centers of America

August 19, 2009

Just a little personal observation here. I have been in Chicago for the last 1 1/2 weeks with a a family friend who is going through treatment for cancer at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). It has been a real eye opening experience for me. Everyday I see hundreds of brave men and women going through this fight with strength and dignity. I don’t see people crying or feeling sorry for themselves. I see people who get on a plane, fly half way across the country and face their battle head on. It definitely is an inspiration to me. No matter the outcome, these people are winners in my eyes for the way they faced their difficulties.

It also really makes me appreciate the battle for health care reform that is going on as we speak. There are real faces behind the reform that sometimes gets forgotten. For everyone that I see walk through the doors of the cancer center, I suspect that there exist one person who is not there because they could not afford it. Just something to think about no matter which side of the aisle you set on.
