Great Article and a possibility that everyone should be concerned about. If we continue down the road that we are on, I agree that there exist a real possibility of the disappearance of the middle class in this country.
The possibility makes me think of some of the other economies that see around the world; specifically, Brazil, China, Hong Kong and India. All of these countries have pockets where citizens have great wealth and have all the modern things that we have come to accept as normal in this country. Then there is the other side. The side that is hidden; out of site of the tourist and the international business travelers. The ever-expanding slums and increasing numbers living in poverty in many of these areas is a scenario that we definitely want to avoid in this country.
However, unless jobs are created, we will continue down the path of where the existing middle class will continue to lose their homes, their savings, their hopefulness and their dignity along with their livelihood.
