Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.) chose an interesting term to describe the results of last nights election. In past monarchies, the “whipping boys” were punished in the place of princes’ who failed to follow rules. The strategy worked and the prince’s behavior was corrected based on the bond that developed between the prince and his whipping boy. I am not sure that we have that same situation here. Sure, there are members of the House and Senate who think of themselves as royalty but I do not see the bond with Martha Coakley. Before the results were in, the finger pointing had begun. Many placed the blame on Coakley and her campaign rather than on any action that they had taken or failed to take. While there will be some members of Congress who realize that the electorate is demanding a new direction, a large number will continue along the same path as long as their position is safe without regard to any “whipping boy”.
This is crazy. Here is a thought. How about letting the people of Massachusetts decide who they want to represent them? I know what everyone is going to say. How can they be trusted to know what is best for themselves? They have been electing Kennedy and Kerry for years. In all seriousness, like every voter in this country. They should have the final say. No appointment of Governor Dukakis, Victoria Kennedy or anyone else. The Senator has passed. Legacy has been praised. Memorials held. Time to move on and let the campaign begin.Read the Article at HuffingtonPost

Alec, You are over-reaching!. Yes, Senator Kennedy did some great things in his life and fought hard for the citizens of Massachusetts. However, much of what he did and fought for was the Kennedy legacy. Senator Kennedy is the perfect example of what is wrong with politics today. We send people to Washington to represent us, the citizens, and they end up serving their own ambitions and the agenda of their party. Senator Kennedy has had many opportunities to be a great man but has failed to live up to his potential. Yes, he was a good legislator. Yes he was an effective politician. Probably one of the best. But a Great American leader? No. RIPRead the Article at HuffingtonPost

Yes, it is in bad taste but I am sure that he would have some takers.Read the Article at HuffingtonPost

With the passing of Ted Kennedy, we have another week of wall to wall coverage of a celebrity funeral. People race to watch all news stories as if he were a member of their own family. I never quite understood this emotional attachment to someone you don’t even know. Senator Kennedy is just another person who did some good on this earth but also missed out on an opportunity to do even more.

You will hear pundits talking about how great a man Senator Kennedy was and how it is wrong to speak ill of the dead. In some ways that is correct, Ted Kennedy did devote his live to public service and to fighting for the people of his state. However, much of his public service was dedicated to promoting and protecting the Kennedy legacy. With the death of his brothers, Kennedy bore an awesome responsibility the lead the family. Much of it he did with grace and dignity; much of it he did not.

As a man who believes that “all” the vulnerable deserve to be protected, I think that Kennedy missed a great opportunity to shape the moral direction of this country. As a man who’s family was looked up to, respected; one might say worshiped, Ed Kennedy could have used this influence to protect life. He did not. It was not the expediate thing to do. It was not the thing that would keep him at the center of the Democratic party for over 4 decades.

I will not pretend to know the state of his soul at the time of his death. That is not for me to judge. I will indeed keep Sen. Kennedy in my prayers and encourage you to do the same. However, it is also not for me to overlook his flaws and artificially promote him to a level that he does not deserve.

RIP

This is outrageous! If the Democrats in Massachusetts succeed in changing the law for the sole reason as to pass a Democratic health care bill, it will be obvious that we no longer have a representative government. Senators are elected to serve the interest of the state and citizens from which they are elected. The push by the late Sen Kennedy, Senator Reid, Governor Patrick is coming as a means of serving the national party. I would urge all citizens of the state of Massachusetts to firmly resist this effort. If there is a true concern about not having 2 sitting Senators, the special election should be moved forward.Read the Article at HuffingtonPost
